Our Story

How it all began…

Our story begins with Matt Jameson and Bill Anzelc, two kids who met on a soccer field in Indiana. One was philosophical and adventurous, the other concrete and cautious. Both loved the outdoors and pretty much every athletic pursuit available to them. A lifelong friendship began.

In their teens they coached adults with developmental disabilities to downhill ski. This time on the slopes of Southwestern Michigan launched the beginning of careers dedicated to special education for each of them.

In their twenties they backpacked through Europe, creating their own experiences while contemplating the complexity of life and love. In the process of challenging each other’s world views, they learned that life is simple as a snowflake, and that’s a complicated thing.

Matt settled in Utah, Bill in Indiana. As the tree grows and branches, it also roots. And sometimes connections, where those roots are deepest, endure and tie us to where we are from.

Today…

Utah is where we found the ground that was common to us all. Over the past three decades our families have converged in many beautiful places throughout this great state.

Dropping into Mineral Fork in a vertigo-inducing whiteout, being in snow so deep they couldn't turn on Big Cottonwood’s steepest of slopes…

“I hate you Mr. Jameson,” floating down through mellow powder fields by frustrated powder hounds who couldn't keep their tips up…

Clawing up sketchy quartzite with full sewing machine legs…

Climbing the ridges and peaks…

Packing dry clothes in trash bags and wading up the Zion narrows, packs held overhead…

Rappelling through Spry Canyon…

Camping in the goblins…

Floating the Colorado and Green…

Traveling some streams in-between.

It was these roads that brought all our branches back together.

It was these roads that gave us the chance to share time together; to laugh, talk, be exhilarated, embrace our fears, and above all, continue to grow and appreciate and love both the places and one another.
